Riders in Singapore will be able to hail a Waymo through the company’s own app in 2028, under a plan announced with the country’s transport authorities.
The Land Transport Authority confirmed the arrangement a day later, on September 18, naming Waymo its newest autonomous vehicle operator alongside ComfortDelGro and Grab. The service is planned as fully autonomous and all-electric.
Electric Jaguar I-PACE vehicles arrive first, in the coming months, while the company stands up local operations.
A readiness phase in 2027 puts trained autonomous specialists behind the wheel manually. Their task is adapting the Waymo Driver to local road geometry and to monsoon weather.
Commercial driverless service follows in 2028.
Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana described Singapore as one of the safest and most forward-thinking transport ecosystems anywhere, and committed to high-skilled local operational jobs. The company has also been working toward launches in Tokyo, London and Munich.
Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow welcomed Waymo as the newest autonomous operator and pointed to new transport options and a stronger local ecosystem. The regulator framed the entry as part of a longer push to attract leading autonomous vehicle companies, with deployments intended to complement public transit.
