Lovable buys the SLang language behind Sutro’s zero-infra backends

Lovable is buying a compiler. The vibe coding company announced Friday that it acquired Sutro, the startup behind the SLang programming language and a platform for generating production-ready backends.

Four people come with the deal: Sutro founder Tomas Halgas, plus engineers Max Gfeller, Tony Zhan and Hirad Arshadi. Halgas takes a technical evangelism role, which Lovable tied to the work that drove Sutro, making how the technology works understandable to the people building with it.

The pitch for SLang is that a whole backend can be declared rather than assembled. Its documentation lists six constructs.

Entities are persisted database records and their relationships, while schemas hold reusable structured types. Actions carry typed business logic. Triggers cover HTTP endpoints, queues, cron jobs and events.

Security spans subjects, identity fields, groups, roles and permissions. Modules supply built-in capabilities such as AI and HTTP calls.

Sutro calls the model zero-infra and says the language is meant to be as legible to models as to people. Lovable said the team spent five years on the language, compiler and platform, aiming to make application behavior and rules explicit and the engineering secure and reliable by default.

Lovable raised $400M at a $13.3B valuation about a year ago. This deal points at the next problem for vibe coding. Producing an app is the easier half. Once anyone can push software into production, the output has to be something a business can trust.
