Meta lets Muse agents build their own little rooms

Spaces turns a chat thread into a persistent project workspace that keeps updating from connected apps.

Meta rolled out Spaces on Friday, a feature that gives its Muse agents somewhere to work other than a single scrolling conversation. Each Space is effectively a breakout thread tied to one project, listed in the sidebar of the Muse interface.

Click a Space and Muse resumes that particular goal. Plan a vacation in one. Track holiday gifts in another. Build a wedding planner or a DIY project board. Meta’s framing is that you describe an idea in chat and the agent constructs the structure around it.

The quiet part is the background sync

Spaces can connect to outside apps, and when they do, they refresh without being asked. New concert dates appear. Price changes land. Savings progress updates. The agent stops being a thing you query and becomes a thing that watches.

Mark Zuckerberg previewed his own use on X, saying he had built a BBQ game, an event tracker and a home control dashboard, adding that he was looking forward to what other people made.

A feature cadence that is accelerating

Spaces is the second Muse addition in a week. Meta announced Muse Voice on Thursday, letting people video chat with their agent avatar and give it spoken instructions.

The audience is not small. On October’s earnings call Zuckerberg said Muse agents had 10 million users across the US and Canada, less than two months after launch.

Meta is pushing into a crowded lane of deliberately cute agent personas, alongside OpenAI’s dots and SpaceXAI’s Grokbot. The avatars matter less than the retention they drive, and persistent spaces that maintain themselves between visits are a retention mechanic dressed as a productivity tool.

The competitive question is whether users want an agent with a room of its own, or whether they want the task done and the room forgotten.
