Startup and Funding
AI startup Recursive has come out of stealth mode with a $650 million funding round, valuing the company at $4.65 billion. The investment was led by GV (Google Ventures) and Greycroft, with participation from AMD Ventures and Nvidia. The company, founded by Richard Socher (formerly of Salesforce) and Tim Rocktäschel (formerly of Google Deepmind), also includes researchers from OpenAI, Meta, and Uber AI.
Vision and Approach
Recursive’s core mission is to create artificial intelligence capable of recursively self improving, which the team calls the fastest route to superintelligence. Co-founder Tim Rocktäschel draws inspiration from Stanisław Lem’s concept of an information barrier, where knowledge grows so quickly that humans cannot meaningfully integrate it. The startup aims to break through that barrier by fully automating the scientific method, starting with AI research itself. However, the company has not yet published any concrete technical results.
