More than $500M has landed in Manus’s account, a round led by private equity firm Boyu Capital with Tencent joining, and it reportedly values the Chinese agent developer at $4B.
That is about double the price Meta was said to have offered last December. In April, Chinese regulators stopped that acquisition.
Manus began life in 2022 as Butterfly Effect, launching with a browser extension that placed several models behind a single interface. A $10M raise followed in 2024, after which the company pivoted toward what became the Manus agent.
The product shipped in March behind an invite-only program, and clips of it executing multistep tasks on people’s own computers spread quickly. Benchmark led a $75M round in April 2025, and the headquarters shifted to Singapore.
Since the Meta deal fell apart, Manus has kept shipping while operating standalone. Days before the funding news arrived Manus 2.0, carrying a new harness and claims of 23.2 percent lower token use on some tasks plus more than 28 percent faster processing.
That release also introduced a generator for short clips and games, a managed Cloud Computer for agent workloads, and Cue, which supplies agents with resources such as a digital wallet and an email account.
The money arrives as rivalry among Chinese model makers sharpens and investors hunt for agent platforms that win paying users beyond the open-weights contest.
