Claude for Legal now checks its own citations first

Anthropic added an artifacts gallery that ties every legal statement back to its source before an attorney reviews it.

Anthropic is taking aim at the oldest objection to legal AI: that its output cannot be trusted without a junior associate re-checking every line. Claude for Legal now ships a gallery of pre-built artifacts, interactive tables and overviews covering routine attorney work, and the system confirms each citation and ties every claim back to the document it came from before a lawyer ever opens the file.

The templates address requests that have piled up since the product arrived in May. Legal teams wanted help comparing statutes across jurisdictions, following proposed legislation, organizing case files and testing contracts against a firm’s own internal rules, and those tasks now have purpose-built artifacts rather than blank prompts.

Connectors matter as much as the templates themselves. More than 60 integrations sit in the legal directory, Bloomberg Law among them, so a team can reach its own matter management systems and research subscriptions without hand-uploading anything. A few names stand out among the third-party listings: Goodwin, Harvey, PwC and Foley and Lardner. Buyers therefore get a mix of first-party and vendor-built options in one directory.

Guardrails are configurable rather than bolted on. Anthropic says the settings enforce data protection rules and preserve the information barriers that keep client teams walled off from one another, a demand in nearly every large firm and a recurring obstacle in enterprise rollouts.

Citation checking targets a specific failure mode. Legal AI has produced fabricated case references before now, so a verification pass that surfaces the underlying document flips the review from hunting errors to confirming them. It keeps the lawyer in the loop, which Anthropic treats as a deliberate design choice rather than a limitation.
