Meta hands builders the firmware to wire Muse into any gadget

Muse should not be trapped in a phone, Meta has decided. Friday brought Muse Gadgets, an open-source effort that lets hardware tinkerers connect their own devices to the assistant.

The core of the release is a pair of SDKs. An ESP32 kit targets microcontrollers, while a Linux kit turns a spare Raspberry Pi or similar box into a Muse device. Each folder carries a README and an AGENTS.md file aimed at coding agents. The code sits in the facebookincubator/muse-gadget-sdk repository on GitHub under an Apache 2.0 license.

Meta offered starter ideas, from a Raspberry Pi 5 wired into Home Assistant to a stick that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port. Gadgets pair through the Muse app after the user turns on developer mode, then show up with a MuseGadget prefix.

Meta built an example of its own, too. The Muse Home Link is a small USB-C device that joins a home network, giving Muse a path to smart TVs, speakers and anything else exposing an HTTPS endpoint. Nat Friedman, who leads product at Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, unveiled it. The company made 5,000 and is handing them out free to US Muse subscribers while supplies last.

The project is framed as just-for-fun, with a warning about bricked boards, voided warranties, brownouts or bankruptcies. It follows Muse for Small Business and a new enterprise unit.
