Google Labs retools CC as a shared agent for busy households

Google Labs has rebuilt CC, its experimental assistant, as a shared agent for families. The new version runs from a dedicated Google account, supports up to six members, and lets each person choose what to share with it.

CC began in December 2025 as a personal productivity agent wired into Gmail, Calendar, Drive and the open web, mailing users a “Your Day Ahead” briefing. In May it landed in the Gemini app as Daily Brief. The family build keeps the briefing but sends it to the whole group, so everyone can see who needs to be where, what is still pending and what the agent finished yesterday.

The mechanics lean on email. CC pulls dates and to-dos out of shared correspondence, files them into a family calendar, and enriches entries with details such as what to bring and when to arrive. It surfaces buried forms, appointments and RSVPs onto a shared list, and can nudge a chat when a deadline closes in.

It also drafts Google Docs and Sheets for meal plans, packing lists and budgets, and takes on the recurring chores that tend to land on one parent, such as signing permission slips.

Tom Shane, a senior product manager at Google Labs, said the dedicated account gives CC a distinct identity and a clear permissions model, and that requests to help run a busy home were among the most common asks from users.

CC joins a small field of family-focused agents like Ollie and Fambot, all testing the same question: how much of a household should a model actually run, and who is accountable when it gets the school schedule wrong?
