Mistral is taking its open-weights approach to the Middle East.
The French lab and HUMAIN, the Public Investment Fund’s AI company, announced a strategic collaboration covering infrastructure, model work, and deployments across Saudi Arabia and neighboring markets. The companies put the value in the hundreds of millions of euros.
Mistral will look at running workloads on HUMAIN’s data centers to serve local compute demand. A joint go-to-market follows, aimed at banks, manufacturers, telecoms, cybersecurity buyers, and the public sector.
The guiding idea is sovereign AI: data and models stay under customer control, weights remain open and adaptable, and training runs in jurisdictions the customer picks.
For Mistral, the deal stretches its Mistral Compute footprint east of Europe and America. For HUMAIN, it adds a frontier developer to a lineup that already includes NVIDIA systems, an xAI data center pact, and an AMD-Cisco venture targeting 1 gigawatt by 2030. HUMAIN’s first cluster holds roughly 18,000 NVIDIA GB300 GPUs.
