US residents can now tap ChatGPT for help understanding lab results, tracking wellness trends, and preparing for doctor visits after OpenAI opened its Health feature to all adult users on July 23.
The new experience ties into hospital record systems from Epic and Oracle Health alongside consumer tools such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. Users decide what to connect and when the chatbot can draw on that data. Once linked, ChatGPT answers questions grounded in personal health context rather than general web knowledge.
OpenAI designed the system with specific privacy safeguards. Connected medical records and conversations that reference them are not used to train the company’s foundation models or feed advertising systems. The company said it partnered with physicians to tune the models for health-related accuracy.
The rollout arrived one day after a Florida pastor filed a lawsuit alleging ChatGPT gave advice that nearly led to fatal consequences. OpenAI cited existing safety mechanisms in its response and said it continues to improve how the model handles medical questions. The company still advises users to verify important health information with a licensed professional.
The feature runs on GPT-5.5 Instant for free-tier users and GPT-5.6 Sol for paid subscribers. It marks one of the company’s most ambitious pushes into regulated health services.
