In the three weeks since Moonshot AI unleashed its Kimi K3 model, the shockwaves have been both technical and financial. The 2.8 trillion-parameter system matched frontier models from Anthropic and OpenAI, dragged down semiconductor stocks globally, and drew a rare warning from a former White House official. Now the Beijing company is heading to Hong Kong to test whether that momentum has a price tag north of 0 billion.

Moonshot is aiming for a public listing within six months and has circulated a shareholder resolution seeking approval, according to Bloomberg. A concurrent private fundraising round is expected to close at the 0 billion-plus valuation that would anchor the IPO. The startup’s annual recurring revenue hit 00 million in June, up 50 percent from 00 million two months prior.

CICC and Goldman Sachs are in early-stage discussions to underwrite the offering. Moonshot is also unwinding its offshore VIE structure to comply with Beijing’s rules for Chinese companies listing abroad. Major investors include Alibaba, Tencent, and China Mobile. The company holds roughly .4 billion in cash.

Artificial Analysis ranked Kimi K3 ahead of Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 on several frontier benchmarks, a first for a Chinese open-weight model. The July 17 release also outperformed GPT-5.6 and Fable 5 on multiple evaluations. Former White House AI czar David Sacks described K3 as concerning.

CEO Yang Zhilin, a former Tsinghua professor who worked at Meta and Google, co-founded the company. Its product suite includes chatbot subscriptions, enterprise APIs, and Kimi Work, a general-purpose AI agent.

Moonshot’s accelerated timeline puts it ahead of Chinese peers. DeepSeek has flagged a 2027 target, while Anthropic is eyeing a fall 2026 window and OpenAI has pointed toward 2027. A successful listing would be the first major test of public appetite for a Chinese AI company at multi-billion-dollar valuation.
