Goldman Sachs and CICC Tapped for Moonshot’s Hong Kong Debut

Investment banks rarely commit to advising a pre-IPO company unless a deal is within striking distance. Moonshot’s decision to bring on both Goldman Sachs and China International Capital Corp for its Hong Kong listing signals that what was once speculation is now moving toward execution, with the Kimi K3 developer targeting a $30 billion valuation.

Moonshot’s accelerated push to public markets stands in contrast to the broader private equity landscape, where exit activity has been notably sluggish. By locking in Goldman Sachs and China International Capital Corp early, the startup is signaling it intends to move quickly while investor interest in its technology remains high.

The $30 billion valuation target, while substantial, trails the figures commanded by Anthropic and OpenAI, both of which are exploring their own listing timelines. Anthropic has signaled a potential September or October offering, while OpenAI is viewed as a longer-term prospect, likely around 2027.

The Kimi K3 model’s viral growth has drawn comparisons to the buzz that surrounded DeepMind during its peak years, propelling Moonshot from relative obscurity to a household name in China’s AI sector. The company now faces the challenge of sustaining that momentum through the regulatory and market scrutiny that comes with a public offering.

If completed on the current timeline, Moonshot’s IPO would be among the most closely watched tech listings in Hong Kong this year, offering a bellwether for how public markets are valuing the new generation of Chinese AI companies.
