Sequoia gathers $10B and bets everything on one close-knit team

The venture firm is closing its London office and ending its Arc and Scouts programs, betting that fewer, more senior investors serve founders better.

Sequoia Capital has pulled about $10 billion into fresh vehicles and simultaneously torn up its internal structure, announcing both in a memo on its official X account on November 4, 2026.

Three things disappear with the reset. Arc, a seed program it opened in spring 2022 that offered participants an eight-week curriculum and a million dollars up front, closes down. Scouts goes too, the talent network the firm began building more than a decade before its October 2021 announcement described it. The London office also shuts, with several staff expected to leave.

What replaces them is a flatter, more concentrated shop. The early and growth labels vanish in favor of one team, with seven general partners owning and running the firm. On the public roster those names are Andrew Reed, David Cahn, Konstantine Buhler, Pat Grady, Shaun Maguire, Sonya Huang and Alfred Lin. The weekly Monday partner meeting is gone too, so calendars can bend to founders rather than the reverse.

Sequoia explains the overhaul as the deferred bill for roughly 20 years of expansion into new sectors and regions, which stacked management layers above the investing floor and made a lead partner a gatekeeper to the wider firm.

Europe, the firm insists, was not the problem. The London closure reflects a judgment that local presence adds little, not doubts about the team, and outlier founders there will be backed from the Bay Area.

Everything now hangs on a single bet: that fewer people with more conviction, funded generously, beat a portfolio of programs. Arc and Scouts once bought the firm access to the earliest stage. Only time will show whether a single partnership retains it.
