Superhuman decided against building the meeting notetaker its roadmap called for, and bought one instead. The company acquired Fathom, a Y Combinator graduate, in a deal TechCrunch reported on September 14. No price was disclosed.
Fathom started in 2020, and PitchBook valued it at $94M four years later. Its total raise sits above $30M.
Investors include Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures and Maven Ventures, plus individuals such as Reddit’s Steve Huffman, former Twitch chief Emmett Shear and Cruise co-founder Kyle Vogt.
A free plan did the marketing: monthly active users passed 400,000, and the company says a million people have recorded a meeting on it.
Meeting records are becoming raw material for agents that act without being asked. A prompt-driven tool waits for instructions, while an assistant that knows what a team agreed in a call can start the follow-up itself. Superhuman chief executive Shishir Mehrotra said running its own trial notetaker showed how much work a good one takes.
The purchase lands in a consolidating market. Microsoft, Google and a growing field of assistants have pushed past transcription into chasing action items, and Superhuman is betting that the record of a meeting becomes the entry point for that work.
