Two new capabilities reached ChatGPT users worldwide on Thursday, both aimed at people shopping rather than asking questions. Virtual try-on lets someone upload a photo of themselves and preview how a piece of clothing or an accessory would look, while Favorites stores products in an in-app Library for later.
The try-on option shows up as a button inside shopping results. Users can also upload a picture of an item, such as a screenshot, and have the assistant wear it for them. Saved items land beside the try-on images.
OpenAI credits ChatGPT Images 2.5, a newer model it says renders more natural lighting and richer textures, follows edits more faithfully, and returns results faster.
Fashion discovery is well-trodden ground. Google introduced virtual try-on last year, and Pinterest has long turned outfit inspiration into purchases. OpenAI has tested these waters before, walking back an instant checkout feature that failed to catch on.
It is also competing with younger rivals. Agentic startup Instinct has been pushing product recommendations, which some users likened to advertising more than assistance.
