Crusoe doubles down on Tulsa with a second components plant

Crusoe’s AI campuses need switchgear, busbar and enclosures, so the company builds them itself. It opened a second Tulsa factory on September 14, a 400,000-square-foot addition that lifts its national manufacturing footprint to about 1M square feet.

The product list is unglamorous and essential. Medium-voltage switchgear comes out of Tulsa. So do low-voltage switchboards, electrical enclosures, industrial controls and custom copper busbar. Output from the city already sits under gigawatts of AI capacity, including more than 2,500 switchboards delivered to the Stargate Project site in Abilene, Texas.

Hiring beat the plan. Crusoe expected 100 workers when the first plant opened in 2024. More than 300 craft workers now staff the two sites, and the new building will more than double Tulsa’s headcount. Co-founder Cully Cavness, who counts 1,800 employees and 15,000 skilled workers across Crusoe’s operations, said building equipment in-house in the United States is what lets the company move at its pace.

The move says something about where the AI boom now runs. Electrical gear has its own lead times, and a developer that owns the factory can energize a site while competitors wait in a queue.
