Google Maps is pushing Ask Maps further into assistant territory. An August 6 update gives the conversational feature the ability to order food, book hotels, and find event tickets, and adds Personal Intelligence so answers can factor in a user’s Gmail and Google Calendar.

Food ordering flows through a chat: users ask for something like vegan avocado toast near home, Ask Maps lists matching restaurants, and an Order online button hands off to supported platforms including Square, Toast, or Uber Eats, with items added to a cart. Hotel searches can weigh price, rating, and location constraints in one query, with Ask Maps comparing options and availability before linking out to the partner site to complete the booking.

Ticket discovery covers events such as comedy shows and live music, returning options with purchase links. Personal Intelligence, off by default, answers questions about upcoming flights, dinner reservations, and hotel stays by pulling from email and calendar. Ask Maps also keeps conversation history so trip planning can resume later, and a live transit widget tracks delays as they happen.

The rollout has two tracks: the agentic ordering and booking features are arriving for users in the United States, while Personal Intelligence and the transit widget expand to every market where Ask Maps exists.

Google’s broader aim is to convert Maps from a navigation utility into a general-purpose assistant that closes real-world tasks, part of the company’s push to weave agentic AI through its consumer apps.
