Indian AI coding startup Emergent has raised $130 million in a Series C funding round at a $1.5 billion valuation, a five-fold jump in six months. The round was led by private equity firm Creaegis, with participation from MNI Ventures-Claypond, Sentinel Global, and existing backers Khosla Ventures, SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator.
The startup, co-founded by brothers Mukund and Madhav Jha in June 2025, describes its platform as “an engineering team in a box.” It targets entrepreneurs and small-to-medium businesses building production-grade applications — trucking companies tracking shipments, factories managing operations, and property developers creating internal tools.
Emergent has reached an annualized revenue run rate of $120 million, up 70% in the last four months, with more than 200,000 paying customers. North America accounts for about a third of revenue, Europe another third, and the rest comes from other markets. India makes up about 8-9%.
The company positions itself against Replit as its closest rival, while distinguishing from developer-focused tools like Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex by handling deployment, hosting, testing, and debugging alongside programming. However, co-founder Mukund Jha acknowledged that design remains a weakness, noting that many AI-built websites tend to look similar.
Emergent plans to use the capital to accelerate product development, improve success rates of applications built on its platform, and expand go-to-market operations. The company is also considering opening a European office and scaling its San Francisco team to around 40 people by year-end.
