Streamlining Scientific Workflows

Anthropic has introduced Claude Science, a dedicated AI workbench designed to simplify and accelerate scientific research. The application consolidates tools and databases that researchers commonly use, such as PubMed, Jupyter, and R, into a single environment. It allows scientists to analyze literature, execute multi-step research, and produce auditable artifacts with a traceable history for validation and reproducibility. Users can access the workbench locally on macOS or Linux, or remotely via SSH or HPC login nodes.

Advanced Capabilities and Integration

Claude Science features a generalist coordinating agent that can access over 60 pre-configured skills and connectors for fields like genomics, single-cell analysis, proteomics, structural biology, and cheminformatics. It can spawn specialist agents and includes a reviewer agent that checks citations and calculations. The workbench natively renders 3D protein structures, genome browser tracks, and chemical structures, with all results tied to their generating code. It also integrates with NVIDIAs BioNeMo Agent Toolkit to connect with life sciences models such as Evo 2, Boltz-2, and OpenFold3.

Early Adoption and Availability

Initial users include Manifold Bio, which used Claude Science to nominate experimental targets, and researchers at the Allen Institute and UCSF Brain Tumor Center, who leveraged it for computational reviews and molecular epidemiology studies. The application is available in beta for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users on macOS and Linux.
