Guangxi Launches AI Open Innovation Platforms to Strengthen ASEAN Tech Collaboration.

As first reported by China News Service Guangxi, Guangxi has officially released the “Guangxi AI Open Innovation Platform Construction Work Guidelines,” setting the stage for a new phase of regional AI development and cross-border cooperation.

The initiative outlines the establishment of a comprehensive AI ecosystem focused on cutting-edge research, industrial empowerment, and collaboration with Southeast Asia.

The platform comprises three core components: new AI R&D institutions targeting specialized fields; AI joint innovation centers embedded in Guangxi’s key industries and sectors focused on openness and ASEAN integration; and AI joint laboratories co-developed with universities, institutes, and enterprises from ASEAN nations. These measures aim to position Guangxi as a bridge between China’s AI ambitions and the technological needs of its Southeast Asian neighbors.

Key construction tasks include driving breakthroughs in critical technologies for AI applications, addressing common challenges across ASEAN-oriented use cases, and fostering demand-driven innovation to support Guangxi’s industrial growth. The plan also emphasizes the importance of transforming research results into practical applications by strengthening technology transfer mechanisms and deploying demonstrative projects.

By aligning research, industry, and international collaboration, Guangxi’s initiative aims to turn the region into a strategic AI hub with both local impact and regional influence.

With its AI Open Innovation Platforms, Guangxi is laying the groundwork for a future that integrates innovation-driven development and international cooperation. The initiative reflects China’s broader push to expand its AI leadership while deepening its ties with ASEAN through shared technological progress.
