Donald Trump used Truth Social over the weekend to announce an “AI Force” modeled on the Space Force and to promise an AI czar, adding that only candidates with a “high IQ” need apply. He did not describe what either would do.
The posts also floated renaming the technology itself. Trump opened a poll asking followers to choose between Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence and Supreme Intelligence, arguing that “Artificial Intelligence” is ineloquent.
In a follow-up he cast criticism of AI and data centers as a left-wing hoax on par with a list of past scandals he named, and said he “will not stand by and let this happen.” He claimed AI could reach 25 percent of US economic output and promised to protect the country’s lead over China. On potential abuses, he said existing criminal and civil law would suffice rather than new rules that could slow growth.
The comments landed days after Anthropic chief Dario Amodei published a plan to “pace the frontier,” which OpenAI’s Sam Altman and SpaceXAI’s Elon Musk appeared to endorse. An Anthropic safety researcher had just resigned warning that leading labs are “gambling with our lives.” At the All-In Summit, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang called the backlash a hoax and said a slowdown would not happen.
Trump’s previous AI and crypto czar, venture capitalist David Sacks, stepped down earlier this year to co-chair the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Pushback on data centers spans both parties, and New York recently became the first state to halt permits for large projects. Trump did not offer evidence that the opposition is coordinated rather than local.
