No Y Combinator startup has reached unicorn status faster. AfterQuery, which trains AI to imitate how professionals work, has reportedly closed funding at a $3.2B valuation, per Forbes. The company’s $30M Series A in April valued it at $300M.

That is a tenfold jump in about five months. Y Combinator partner Gustaf Alstromer calls it the fastest launch-to-unicorn arc in the accelerator’s history. Both founders, aged 22 and 23, went through the Winter 2025 batch roughly 18 months ago.

AfterQuery sits in the specialist-data corner of the AI boom alongside Mercor and Scale. The distinction is in what gets labeled. Rivals mostly improve how accurately models answer questions. AfterQuery studies how doctors, lawyers, and other experts execute tasks, encoding the reasoning patterns of top practitioners so agents can replicate complete workflows.

The startup reported a $100M annualized revenue run rate by April. NVIDIA, Legora, and Korea’s Motif Technologies are named customers, with many of the largest labs on board. AfterQuery did not respond to requests for comment on the reported round.

If the valuation holds, it marks how far investor appetite has moved toward companies that shape model behavior rather than those selling raw compute. The durability question is whether demand for expert-labeled task data keeps pace with the agent buildout.
