Amazon has put OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 models, Terra and Luna, on Bedrock with a residency guarantee: every inference request stays inside India. The setup targets banks, hospitals, and government agencies that must keep data processing within the country.
A geographic inference profile shuffles traffic between the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions as capacity demands, but never routes it abroad. That satisfies data residency rules while still drawing on a wider pool of compute, with billing and audit logs pinned to the source region.
Both models accept text and image input, produce text output, and carry a 1-million-token context window, enough for long documents, large code bases, and mixed workloads in one request. Developers reach them through inference profiles using OpenAI-compatible or Bedrock-native APIs.
The launch extends OpenAI’s India push, which already includes new local leadership and ChatGPT advertising. Running inside AWS gives Indian enterprises frontier models without cross-border data flows, and keeps OpenAI’s distribution inside Amazon’s cloud orbit.
