Oracle cloud customers will soon be able to rent time on a 98-qubit trapped-ion quantum computer without buying any hardware, under a partnership announced August 11.

Helios, Quantinuum’s third-generation machine, will live inside a US-based Oracle Cloud Infrastructure AI data center. OCI plans to offer it as a managed quantum service, with a preview expected in the coming months, accessed through the same identity and governance controls used for other cloud services.

Drug discovery, materials science, financial modeling, and large-scale optimization are the target workloads, mixing quantum with AI and high-performance computing. Helios went commercial in November 2025 with 98 fully connected physical qubits, 48 logical qubits demonstrated, and an average two-qubit gate fidelity of 99.921 percent.

NVIDIA’s Grace Hopper GPUs sit inside the machine’s control system, which does the real-time error correction via the CUDA-Q platform and Quantinuum’s Guppy language. Oracle’s Mahesh Thiagarajan said the goal is to let developers explore quantum alongside existing AI and HPC workloads while improving compute efficiency and energy use.
