OpenAI launched Health in ChatGPT on July 23, allowing US users to connect Apple Health data and medical records directly into their chat conversations. The feature taps into the more than 300 million health-related questions people ask ChatGPT each week, giving the assistant real context around lab results, medications, and activity data.
Users control what gets connected and when ChatGPT can use it. Health information and the conversations that use it are explicitly excluded from model training and ad targeting. A permission system lets users approve each request or set blanket access, and they can disconnect accounts at any time.
The underlying health intelligence builds on work OpenAI started earlier this year. GPT-5.6 Sol handles the most complex health reasoning tasks, while GPT-5.5 Instant provides frontier-level health evaluations to free users. OpenAI worked with hundreds of physicians to build realistic scenarios and scoring rubrics for measuring accuracy, safety, and communication quality.
Health supports connections to Apple Health, US hospital system portals, One Medical, and Function Health. It is rolling out to logged-in ChatGPT users aged 18 and older on web and iOS across all plan tiers.
