OpenAI spent much of its DevDay keynote on Tuesday pushing ChatGPT into territory owned by Microsoft, Google and Notion. The company unveiled Space, a shared workspace where teams and their agents work on the same projects.
Space holds pages, files and chats together. Chief executive Sam Altman said a user can give a page standing instructions, such as watching a team channel and updating itself. Pages is a companion document type built for people and agents to edit side by side, with charts, images and research generated in place. Collaborative Slides, drafted by talking through them, follows in the coming weeks.
The second half of the pitch targets developers. Plugin extensions give third-party apps a permanent home in the ChatGPT sidebar, with interactive panels and viewers for the file formats a partner’s product uses. A new Plugin Creator and a redesigned submission flow are meant to simplify publishing. Plugins can also be embedded in ChatGPT Sites, so colleagues open the same app with their own data and permissions.
OpenAI says it is adopting the proposed MCP Events specification, letting plugins trigger automations when something changes in a connected app.
Pricing shifts as well. A $500 Pro tier joins the lineup, and the $200 plan returns with a smaller API allowance. Enterprise customers get a marketplace that steers existing OpenAI spending toward approved partner software, launching with 32 vendors including Adobe, Figma, Salesforce and CrowdStrike.
