Nvidia adds $150B to the largest buyback increase ever

Nvidia’s board handed shareholders another $150B on Monday, lifting the company’s open repurchase authorization to $235B. Nvidia calls it the largest single increase to a buyback program on record and expects to spend the remaining authorization by fiscal 2028.

The timing follows the money. AI infrastructure demand has kept Nvidia’s cash generation climbing, and the company says it can fund technology bets and shareholder returns from the same flow.

Markets read it as confidence. The shares added 2.8 percent on the day, and a 24 percent gain over twelve months has carried Nvidia’s value to roughly $5.42T.

Jensen Huang framed the moment as the largest infrastructure build-out in human history. The chief executive said the company expects to return more cash every year and described the authorization as a statement about the opportunity ahead rather than a response to any slowdown.

Demand forecasts back that reading. S&P Global Ratings projected in August that hyperscaler capital spending will pass $1.3T by 2027.

Huang put a number on his own side of the ledger this month, telling CNBC that Nvidia’s unit sales should double next year.

The catalog is broader than graphics processors now. It includes central processors, switch and optical networking silicon, laptop chips, Jetson parts for robots and cars, and the processor inside Nintendo’s Switch 2.

One risk sits underneath. Debt-funded data center projects are facing higher bond yields, which puts the buyback in competition for cash with the buildout it depends on.
