Meta opened a new business unit on Monday called Meta Enterprise Platform and handed it to Chirantan “CJ” Desai, who steps down as MongoDB’s chief executive after less than a year. He becomes Meta’s chief enterprise platform officer and reports directly to Mark Zuckerberg.
The opening lineup leans on products Meta already built for consumers: the Muse personal agent, a Meta Business Agent, the Muse API and Muse Code. Muse has drawn enough demand to pass ChatGPT as the leading free iOS app.
Zuckerberg described the advantages as models, agents, infrastructure and existing relationships with millions of advertisers and businesses. Desai said AI will reshape how organisations of every size operate, and argued Meta can pair advanced models with distribution few rivals match.
The motive is plain. Meta is spending more than $100B on AI infrastructure this year, and investors have pressed for evidence of a return. Enterprise software is a market where rivals already have a head start: Claude Code, Codex and Cursor own much of the coding agent trade, and cheap Chinese open-weight models keep undercutting list prices.
The cost of the hire landed on MongoDB. Its shares fell about 18 percent on the news, and the board named Dev Ittycheria, who ran the company for eleven years before Desai, as interim chief executive while it hunts for a permanent replacement.
Meta has not said how the platform will be priced or how the services will be packaged.
