Ten years of software updates, a year of Google AI Pro with 5TB of storage, and a headline price of $899. Google opened pre-orders on Monday for Googlebook, the laptop category it first showed off in May.
Five machines carry the standard at launch, from HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer and Asus, built on Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite or Intel Core Ultra 3 chips. The spec floor is aggressive: 16GB of memory, over 45 TOPS of neural performance, a touchscreen, a haptic trackpad and at least 14 hours of runtime. Shelves get stock October 4 in the US and a day later in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia.
Rather than reskinning a phone platform, Google merged Android and ChromeOS into a separate system. The Magic Pointer is the showpiece: a wiggle of the cursor over an email, a calendar invite or a photo summons a Gemini overlay with suggested actions. Rambler, the dictation engine, strips filler words, keeps your corrections and can change tone or switch languages inside a single sentence.
Classrooms are the longer play. Some 50 million Chromebooks are already in schools, and Google says existing models stay supported while becoming eligible for the new experience.
