Anthropic has collapsed its separate Claude surfaces into one window, retiring the tab-hopping between chat, Cowork and Artifacts that the company says left customers unsure where a task belonged.
The change started rolling out this week to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile, with free and team tiers to follow. Claude now works out for itself whether a request needs a quick answer or a longer agentic run, rather than making the user pick a product first.
Two tools arrive with the redesign. Claude Docs gives writers a shared page where they can draft sections, flag questions and comment on finished parts. Slides builds presentations that can be presented from inside Claude or exported as PowerPoint or PDF, and both sit behind one shareable link that opens on a phone.
The launch follows an August upgrade that merged the memory layers behind chat and Cowork, so context built in one place carries into the other. Cowork began in January as a heavier counterpart to Claude Code for non-coding work; Design arrived in April for sites and prototypes. Both survive as capabilities rather than destinations.
Anthropic is pitching the consolidation as a simpler path into agentic work at a moment when rivals are also trimming app sprawl. Pushing Docs and Slides onto the same surface puts the company more directly against Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, where assistants are bundled into documents and decks that already hold corporate data.
