atNorth has new owners. CPP Investments and Equinix completed their $4B purchase of the Nordic data center developer on September 2, finalizing a deal first struck in February. The seller, Partners Group, chose to keep a stake rather than exit entirely.

The final cap table deviates from what was sketched in February. Canada’s CPP Investments takes the lead with roughly 51 percent control and $1.3B at work. Equinix committed $895M for a stake near 34 percent. Partners Group, the seller, flipped $260M back in for 10 percent, while insiders retained much of their equity. Banks on both sides of the Atlantic supplied a $4.1B facility for the buyout and the buildout ahead.

The portfolio explains the price. Eight operating data centers spread across all five Nordic countries come with the deal. Mega sites are rising in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, joined by a Stockholm metro project. Liquid cooling, renewable power, heat reuse, and roughly 1 GW of secured electricity make the campuses a fit for hyperscale AI and cloud tenants.

Executives cast the deal in AI terms. CPP’s Maximilian Biagosch points to atNorth’s development pipeline and renewable access as long-term infrastructure value. Equinix’s Regina Dahlstrom calls the Nordics a natural home for expanding AI deployments. CEO Eyjolfur Magnus Kristinsson says new hyperscale contracts landed while the deal was pending.

atNorth keeps operating independently under its own brand. CPP Investments manages the Canada Pension Plan Fund, which stood at C$863.6B at the end of June.
