Malachyte, founded by three engineers who built the behavioral intelligence behind Spotify’s recommendation engine, raised $10 million in seed funding co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Gradient, with Harpoon Ventures participating. Their Vector AI system predicts a person’s intent and next actions rather than relying on past behavior, and it powers about 90 percent of Spotify’s recommendations to 800 million users.
The startup applies the same approach to e-commerce, building real-time, intent-aware shopping experiences that form before the first click. Within a single session, the platform builds a read on both preferences and immediate goals using context available the moment a page loads. A search for heavy-duty boots followed by two clicks on steel-toed boots moves work pants and gloves up the page and pushes dress shoes down, with no account or history required. Every hover, click, scroll, and add-to-cart sharpens the profile, CEO Sidd Motwani says, while most systems either ignore those signals or aggregate them overnight.
Malachyte tested with more than 20 enterprise customers across travel, grocery, and retail before focusing on e-commerce. It went live with Fun.com in fall 2025 and has been generally available to Shopify merchants through a native integration since June 2026.
