As first reported by insideainews, Datavault AI Inc. (Nasdaq: DVLT) announced plans to develop an AI-powered high-performance computing (HPC) system to support biofuel crop optimization, focusing on enhancing fatty acid metabolism in Brassica napus (canola).

The project aims to contribute to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s target of displacing up to 140,000 barrels of crude oil per day with biofuels. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory, Datavault AI will integrate comparative genomics, multi-omics processing, and evolutionary biology to refine metabolic pathways in biofuel crops.

Datavault AI will oversee the project’s computational modeling and quality assurance, ensuring that the AI systems are scalable and commercially viable for biofuel producers. CEO Nathaniel Bradley emphasized that technologies like digital twins and Web 3.0 will enhance collaboration and data monetization, accelerating the journey from laboratory research to market adoption. The company’s goal is to reduce the years-long process of biofuel crop improvement through computational simulations that allow faster, more precise analysis of genetic modifications.

Chief Marketing Officer Sonia Choi, who also serves as lead principal investigator, highlighted the importance of structuring data for commercialization in the renewable energy sector. By combining Brookhaven’s research foundation with Datavault AI’s technological framework, the project aims to enable large-scale deployment of optimized biofuel solutions. With global biofuel demand projected to rise by nearly 30% between 2023 and 2028, and North American investments exceeding $1.9 billion in renewable diesel capacity, the market for advanced biofuels is rapidly expanding.

Datavault AI’s initiative demonstrates how AI and HPC can reshape renewable energy development by dramatically improving the speed and scalability of scientific discovery. Positioned at the intersection of environmental sustainability and digital innovation, the company is poised to become a key player in the commercial evolution of biofuels.
