A Santa Monica startup called Blueprints AI says its software can turn a 2D sketch or a PDF into architectural drawings that are code-compliant and ready for permitting, and do it in minutes. A second-generation release gets its debut at TechCrunch Disrupt this week.
The concept actually predates the tools needed to build it. While studying architecture, founder Al Dram wrote a college thesis on software that could generate design documents for school buildings. Large language models had to arrive before the underlying technology existed, and he got the idea off the ground within six months of ChatGPT shipping.
Dram and co-founder Coco Cao, who serves as chief commercial officer and runs sales and go-to-market, incorporated the business in 2025. Their models were trained on eight years of approved drawing sets from Drams Design-Build, the architecture and construction shop Dram still operates.
What the first generation makes is architectural construction documents, sold at $3,200 to $8,500 per month depending on the chosen plan, with custom enterprise pricing on request. The second generation casts a wider net: given a description or a sketch, it drafts architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and interior design in one pass.
Time is the pitch. Dram contends that architects burn about 80 percent of their hours drafting and only 20 percent designing, and he wants those proportions flipped. His company made the 2026 Startup Battlefield 200 cohort.
