Bloomberg first put OpenAI’s annualized revenue run rate above $40B on August 13, and chief financial officer Sarah Friar confirmed the figure to investors the next day, adding that the company’s enterprise business now outsells its ChatGPT-led consumer side. Friar had earlier predicted the two lines would only meet by the end of 2026.

Friar told attendees that the revenue split, which opened the year at 60-40 in favor of consumers, had already flipped, with enterprise now contributing the larger share. Business customer counts rose 32% in July. Advertising, which OpenAI began testing in ChatGPT back in February, is also closing in on a $1B annual run rate.

President Greg Brockman joined the meeting and told investors cybersecurity is a critical part of the business while brushing off concerns about open source competition. The session closed a week that saw revenue chief Denise Dresser step down after eight months and president Brad Lightcap end an eight-year run; Dali Rajic arrives from Wiz as Dresser’s replacement.

OpenAI told investors it serves more than two million business customers and counts over a billion weekly active users. The crossover underscores how much of the company’s growth now flows through API access, model subscriptions and custom enterprise deployments rather than consumer chat.
