The Aachen Regional Court has issued a preliminary injunction barring Google from circulating false claims about a doctor through its AI search results.
Charges and court proceedings belonging to somebody else had ended up attached to the doctor’s name. The judges leaned on reasoning set out by Munich Regional Court I earlier this year.
## Own words, not links
That classification is the whole case. Munich’s bench treated AI Overviews as statements Google itself makes, not pointers to outside material, which leaves the company answerable for what they claim.
Google tried to overturn the Munich ruling, then settled, avoiding a binding decision from a higher court. The reasoning survived anyway, and Aachen has now applied it.
If the view holds, the exposure reaches past individual errors. German press law carries strict liability for false factual claims regardless of fault, and an AI summary that stitches together sentences from several sources can assert something no single source said.
Publishers in Munich brought the original case after the system linked them to fraud schemes. Two courts reaching the same conclusion within months gives the argument weight that a single ruling would not.
For every company shipping generated answers at the top of a results page, the operating assumption has shifted. The text is content the company publishes.
