Serval takes $150M to push automation agents past IT desks

Serval raised $150M at a $3B valuation, the company said Thursday, roughly two years after it was founded.

The product began on the IT help desk. An employee describes a workflow in plain language, agents write the automation, and the automation handles requests as they arrive. Traditional service management tools mostly logged tickets instead.

Customers pulled the software into human resources, finance and legal work, and the new money follows them there. A chunk funds Catalyst, the product Serval launched in August that scans support queues for repetitive work and drafts automations for an administrator to approve.

The rest builds ProServal, a services arm that will hire more than 100 automation engineers over twelve months to work inside large accounts and map how work moves between teams. Roughly half the intake will be fresh graduates, each put through a four-week course first. Chief executive Jake Stauch said the company wants people who grew up building with AI, since nobody has a decade of experience in a discipline whose tools did not exist two years ago.

Staff numbers are up tenfold in twelve months, and the company expects to add over 500 more people while opening New York, London and Austin offices to sit beside its San Francisco headquarters. Two Fortune 20 customers signed in recent months, joining Fox Corp., WPP and Live Nation. Sequoia led the Series C, as it did the $75M Series B that valued Serval at $1B in December.

That staffing plan is the interesting part. Selling agents is easy; getting them wired into how a specific company actually operates is the expensive, human part, and Serval is pricing it in.
